These signs presented a number of technical challenges, particularly in the use of innovative materials and processes. What appears to be stone is a series of complex, resin based mouldings. This allowed fine detailing allied to incredible strength and cost effective production. The curved map panels stretched vitreous enamel printing technology to its limits and the elliptical fingerposts were unique. Their survival in the harshest of urban environments is testimony to the success of the overall design.
